Firmware version 1.0.8 incorporates the following fix.
- Fixes a phenomenon in which captured images may become overexposed when using the camera's built-in flash or an external Speedlite in combination with the lenses listed below:*
a) EF300/4 L IS USM b) EF28-135/3.5-5.6 IS USM c) EF75-300/4-5.6 IS USM d) EF100-400/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Firmware version 1.0.8 is for cameras with Firmware Version 1.0.5. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.0.8, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Precautions
A power failure during the firmware writing operation may disable the camera.
- Use a fully charged Battery Pack or dedicated AC Adapter Kit (Optional) ACK-E6 for the firmware update.
- Do not shut off the power during the firmware writing operation.
- Do not open the SD card slot cover during the firmware writing operation.
Do not press any camera buttons during the firmware writing operation.

How do I update the firmware?
These are two ways to update the camera's firmware.
- Download the firmware file from this web site and install the update as shown in the updating procedure.
- Bring the camera to a Canon Customer Support Center and have the firmware updated by the center.
If you choose this method, contact a Canon Customer Support Center in your region.
Do I need any special equipment to update the firmware?
The equipment required is as follows.
- Battery Pack LP-E6 (The battery pack must be fully charged.) or AC Adapter Kit ACK-E6 (Optional)
- SD card (64MB or more, 64GB or less)
How do I copy the downloaded firmware file to the SD card?
Two methods of copying the downloaded firmware file are provided.
- If you have an SD card reader, please copy the firmware file to the SD card via the SD card reader.
- Connect the camera to a personal computer with a USB cable and copy the firmware file to the SD card in the camera. Please use the EOS Utility application bundled with the camera to copy the file.
I do not have the equipment necessary for the firmware update.

Firmware update procedures
In the following instructions, X.X.X or xxx indicates either the current firmware version or the firmware version for the update.
(1) Format the SD Card
Be sure to carefully review the contents of the SD card before formatting.

How to Extract the Firmware Update File
Windows
Double-click the downloaded file.
Clicking [OK] will cause the file's contents to be extracted and the firmware update file to be created.
Macintosh
The downloaded file will automatically self-extract,creating the firmware update file.

How to Confirm the File Size
Windows
Right-click the icon of the firmware update file and select the [Properties] command from the pop-up menu that appears.
Macintosh
Select the icon of the firmware update file, and then select the [Get Info] command from the [File] menu.
There are two ways to install the firmware update:
- To install from the SD card, follow the procedures outlined in Step (3-1), then bypass Step (4-1) and continue to Step (5).
- To install directly from a compatible computer, bypass Step (3-1) and follow the procedures from Step (4-1) onward.
(3-1) Copy the firmware update file to the SD card.
Insert the SD card that has been formatted in the Camera into the SD card reader.
Copy the firmware update file to the first window that appears when the SD card is opened (the root directory).
Remove the SD card from the card reader.

When the firmware update operations are finished, turn the camera and remove the battery from the camera for at least two seconds. This will cause the new firmware to take effect after the battery has been reloaded and the camera is turned on.

If an ERROR message appears during the firmware update
If this screen appears, remove the battery and check to make sure that there are no problems with the battery capacity or with the firmware update file on the SD card. If there are no problems,repeat the update operations again. |

You shall not assign, sublicense, sell, rent, lease, loan, convey or otherwise transfer to any third party, or copy, duplicate, translate or convert to another programming language the Software, except as expressly provided herein.You shall not alter, modify, disassemble, decompile or otherwise reverse engineer the Software and you also shall not have any third party do so.You shall not modify, remove or delete a copyright notice of Canon contained in the Software.
Except as expressly provided herein, no license or right, express or implied,is hereby conveyed or granted by Canon to you for any intellectual property of Canon.
2. OWNERSHIP AND COPYRIGHT:
The Software is copyrighted and owned by Canon.You agree and acknowledge that Canon transfers neither ownership interest nor intellectual property in the Software to you under this Agreement or otherwise, and that Canon retains all right, title and interest to the Software.
3. EXPORT RESTRICTIONS:
You agree to comply with all applicable export control laws and regulations of the country involved, and not to export or re-export, directly or indirectly, the Software in violation of any such laws and regulations.
4. SUPPORT AND UPDATE:
Canon, Canon’s subsidiaries and affiliates,their distributors and dealers are not responsible for maintaining or helping you in your use of the Software. No updates, bug-fixes or support will be made available to you for the Software.

This Agreement is effective upon your clicking "I Agree" at the bottom of this page. You may terminate this Agreement by deleting the Software. This Agreement will also terminate if you fail to comply with any of the terms of this Agreement. In addition to Canon enforcing any of its legal rights, you shall then promptly delete the Software.
7. U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS NOTICE:
The Software is a "commercial item," as that term is defined at 48 C.F.R. 2.101 (Oct 1995), consisting of "commercial computer software" and "commercial computer software documentation," as such terms are used in 48 C.F.R. 12.212 (Sept 1995). Consistent with 48 C.F.R. 12.212 and 48 C.F.R. 227.7202-1 through 227.72024 (June 1995), all U.S. Government End Users shall acquire the Software with only those rights set forth herein. Manufacturer is Canon Inc./30-2,Shimomaruko 3-chome, Ohta-ku, Tokyo 146-8501, Japan.
8. SEVERABILITY:
In the event that any provision of this Agreement is declared or found to be illegal by any court or tribunal of competent jurisdiction,such provision shall be null and void with respect to the jurisdiction of that court or tribunal and all the remaining provisions of this Agreement shall remain in full force and effect.
9. ACKNOWLEDGMENT:
BY CLICKING "I Agree" AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE, YOU SHALL BE DEEMED TO HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT YOU HAVE READ THIS AGREEMENT,UNDERSTOOD IT, AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY ITS TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
